Mercury Retrograde – Time to Assess Progress on Your Goals

When Mercury is retrograde we’re drawn into the past. We travel through territory we’ve been through before. This is a perfect time for a mini life assessment.

I can feel some of you resisting this idea. In fact, I stiffen up a little at the thought for two reasons really. First, it doesn’t feel like there’s time. Mercury retrograde is a hectic period where we’re juggling more than usual. But also when we look at our plan to achieve our goals and what’s not working in that process it opens up room for doubt. So instead of assessing I often grit my teeth and struggle to move forward while the energy of the planet Mercury is moving backward. It’s like trying to walk uphill in a windstorm.

In the Astrology chart, the Sun represents you, your talents and abilities and Mercury represents your thoughts and ideas. It’s Mercury that’s going backward, not the Sun. The Sun never goes retrograde. What this says to us is it’s useful to doubt an idea but never useful to doubt ourselves.

During this period of retrograde energy take a look at your plans and the actions you’ve been taking towards your goals. Look at what’s been effective and what isn’t working and needs to be discarded. If you’re not getting results look at new strategies. But in this process don’t doubt your capabilities. You have what you need to achieve your goals. Mercury retrograde is just here to help you find a better, faster way.
